Description

Presentation entitled “Cancer in the tree of life: from comparative oncology to multicellularity”. Resume: “Cancer is heavily present in the human species, and we know that almost every mammal can develop cancer. But what do we know about the rest of the living world? Can sponges have cancer? Can plants have cancer? Can slime molds? How frequent is it? If they have cancer, are they of the same type as the ones afflicting humans? We believe that many keys for the understanding of what cancer is are to be found not only in comparative oncology, but also in the very origin of multicellular organisms”.
